Coherence of Evidence
Evidence for the “Where” of the Shroud
-
Native and other pollen
-
Limestone dust native to Jerusalem area
-
Possible images of native spring flowers
Evidence for the “When” of the Use of the Shroud
-
Depictions of Jesus Christ in extant mosaics, paintings, and coins dating from as early as the 5th century AD and many before the 13th century.
-
The Hungarian Prayer Cloth
-
A linen weaving pattern consistent with a 1st century origin of the linen Shroud.
-
Several alternative dating methods are consistent with a 1st century growth of the linen’s flax.
The Carbon-14 Dating Data
-
The C-14 dating is in contradiction to several other dating methods, which place the age in the first century or before.
-
A hypothesis is given herein which proposes an explanation for the abnormal extra abundance of carbon-14 in the linen. Note that the hypothesis may be scientifically proven or disproven, if the proper authorities were to allow testing of the burned portions removed from the Shroud.
Conclusion
-
Each of the above evidential facts is compatible with the claim that the Shroud enshrouded Jesus Christ. But each one does not prove, by itself, the legitimacy of that claim. However, we need to consider the combination of all the evidence presented herein. The detailed evidence herein overwhelmingly implies that the Shroud of Turin was Jesus' burial cloth.
-
The Shroud enshrouded the crucified body of Jesus Christ, exactly as detailed in the Gospel accounts.
-
A unique physical event recorded a 3-D image of Jesus of sufficient resolution that could recognize him in the flesh.
-
So where did the body go? The only credible image formation hypothesis is an abnormal burst of radiation (ultraviolet, particle, or corona discharge). What else but the reported resurrection of Jesus the Messiah?
